Gmail Motion April Fool's gag turned into real Kinect-controlled hack

Remember last week’s Gmail Motion April Fool’s gag, where the search giants posted a fake video showing a Kinect-style series of movements with which to control their online email client? Well in case you hadn’t figured it out yet, it wasn’t real. Google were pulling our legs, the tricksy lot.

However, that’s not to say a motion controlled version of Gmail isn’t possible. In fact, a research team at USC has already gone about proving the concept can be achieved, using some technical know-how and an Xbox 360 Kinect motion controller.

They posted their work in the video above, complete with the hilarious stamp-licking, thigh-slapping “Send” function.
