Google have pulled a popular PlayStation emulator from the Android Market, just ahead of the Sony Ericsson Xperia launch tomorrow, the first smartphone to come complete with gaming controls and coveted PlayStation certification.

It looks as if Sony have forced Google’s hand, with the search giants citing a “content violation” as the reason for the app’s removal.

The app’s developer ZodTTD revealed on Twitter that he had been “working like mad on a psx4droid update,” but that Google’s move effectively marks the end of the app.

It makes sense in terms of business; the last thing Sony Ericsson need before the launch of a phone that will make the company plenty of money from retro game downloads is a tool for people to get illegally gathered games onto the device too, especially when it’s opens gamers up to a cheap and much larger collection of classic games.

Still, they’ve yet to pull the fpse emulator from the store, so if you need a PSX emulator fix, grab it while you still can.
