Google and LG are reportedly working together on a new Honeycomb slate device called the Google Nexus Tablet. As a Google-branded device running the tablet-optimised version of their Android OS, it seems the search giants are looking to put build a reference model for all Honeycomb tablets to follow.

Much like Google’s other foray into hardware, the Nexus smartphone line, the Nexus Tablet will be the first device to get the latest Android updates, adhering to a strict industrial design manifesto. It seems LG were the only manufacturer prepared to accept the terms.

Specs are unknown as yet, but a rumoured mid-summer launch date has already been suggested.

LG of course are already prepping their own tablet, the Optimus Pad (pictured above), whose 3D display is expected to hit stores in late April.
