Tech Digest’s sources have revealed that a partnership between Sky and LG is in the works to bring Sky’s 3D content to the Optimus 3D handset.

The source stated that 3D sporting content from Sky Sports would feature heavily, as well as the possibility of premium content through a download portal. It is uncertain right now whether or not the content will feature as part of an app, and we’d expect users would likely need a Sky subscription too.

It makes plenty of sense: LG are already Sky’s preffered provider of 3D televisions, while the Optimus 3D handsets on show at MWC were all showing a demo reel of Sky 3D content. Both parties would be missing a trick if not to take advantage of the new hardware and programming.

We reached out to the LG staff at the show, who would not confirm any deal at this time, but continued to stress the importance of Sky’s 3D content in their 3D ecosystem. LG’s mobile PR manager Jerome Demare did however say to expect an “important” announcement concerning the Optimus 3D in the coming weeks.
