sex-logo.jpgSex.com has now been confirmed as the most expensive domain name of all time, according to record referees Guinness.

Sold on November 17th, 2010, Sex.com has earned its place in the record books thanks to its whopping £8.2 million price tag. Sex, as they say, sells.

“The sale of Sex.com was truly a team effort. We spent about two years with the domain, establishing the relationships, researching and finding the right buyer and managing the domain’s transfer,” said Kathy Nielsen, director of sales at Sedo, who brokered the deal.

“We’re honoured that Sedo was trusted with such a high-value and high-profile sale, and we’re ecstatic that it is now being recognized by Guinness World Records as a record-breaking deal.”

It’s just the latest chapter in the notoriously chaotic life of the internet address. Bought in 1994 by entrepreneur Gary Kremen, the domain led to a six-year long legal battle after the name was illegally acquired by Stephen Cohen, before courts ruled in favour of Kremen.
