Shakil Khan, head of special projects for Spotify broke the news via Twitter, meaning that paid user numbers have almost doubled from the 320,000 noted nine months ago back in March. It’s a very healthy conversion rate, and increasingly seems to show Spotify as a viable profit-turning proposition.

So much so that the long awaited US launch now seems very close indeed. Speaking at the D: Dive Into Mobile conference, Spotify CEO still said that the service will be launching Stateside in the near future, but wouldn’t be pinned down on a date. He did confirm however that it would be marginally cheaper for US subscribers at $10 a month, which slightly is cheaper than the £9.99 UK users currently pay.

Though some shakey figures suggested all was not well in camp Spotify late last month, it looks as though things are now looking up again.
