Cloud gaming service OnLive are looking into offering an iPad app and a movie streaming service in addition to the videogame streaming tech they already tout. Currently only available in the US, the planned move will see them take on established movie streaming services such as Netflix.
“Streaming technology is available to anybody,” OnLive Chief Executive Steve Perlman said.
“We want to work with the studios. All of these guys want to offer content, we’re just here to distribute. OnLive can deliver any experience that Netflix can.”
OnLive are already in talks with film and TV studios, with the aim of offering video content by 2011.
However, Perlman stressed that the focus of OnLive remains gaming, which is bolstered by news of the services incoming iPad app. The “OnLive Viewer” app won’t allow gamers to play games, but will offer news, trailers and bragging rights to those who can upload the most impressive gaming clips.
