Nokia’s enterprise-focussed E7 handset will not make its initial shipping date of December, and will instead now be pushed back to early 2011.

An unspecified hardware issue that is causing durability problems is at the root of the setback.

“To ensure the best possible user experience on the E7 we have decided to begin shipping it in early 2011″ a Nokia spokesperson told Reuters.

The E7 has a four inch touchscreen display with a full slide-out QWERTY keyboard. The spiritual successor to the Nokia Communicator, it was aimed at those hoping to do a bit of work on the go, featuring a suite of document and presentation editing apps.

It’s quite a blow for Nokia, losing sales on a high-end handset during the lucrative run-up to Christmas, especially consiering the luke-warm critical receptio to the N8.
