Flowd, a free location-based mobile app launched today for both iPhone and Android smartphones.

The app allows fans to directly interact with their favourite musicians and bands and it allows musicans to keep their Fans up-to-date with their latest news, views, tours and appearances, and offers rewards. Currently Armin van Buuren, The Wanted, and DJ Markus Schulz are amongst those using the app.

After playing around with Flowd briefly it struck me as a kind of music oriented version of FourSquare, allowing users to check into various locations. However, instead of being rewarded with badges, users are rewarded with exclusive content from musicians.

In addition to interacting with musicians, Flowd also allows users to check-in to places, send messages, share pictures and connect with their friends from Twitter and Facebook.

This app’s success will greatly be tied to how many users and musicians adopt it, but that said it’s a really interesting idea and worth checking out.
