Nintendo Wii sales hitting an all-time low?

New research from discount site MyVoucherCodes suggests that it may be a very quiet Christmas at Nintendo HQ this year. Sales and search figures for their console through the site have hit an all time low, with rivals Xbox 360 and PS3 now ruling the roost.

Only 16% of search traffic is Wii-related, with sales down 47% over this time last year. Xbox 360 and PS3 search traffic on the other hand account for 43% and 31% of queries respectively.

Mark Pearson, chairman of MyVoucherCodes, had this to say about the findings;

“This time last year, the Nintendo Wii was still competing well against the other higher spec consoles. This year, however, the Wii is facing some fierce competition from its competitors; Sony’s PS3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360 are forcing the Wii to the bottom of the gaming league table – and I think the release of the Move and Kinect is the sole reason.”

With both HD graphics AND improved motion controls now fighting the other corner, perhaps it’s time Nintendo hang up the Wii’s gloves and start training another console champ?
