A study out today by OpTier, has found that Brits are falling even further behind the U.S when it comes to accessing rich media content on their phones. In fact only 21 per cent of Brits use their phone to access real-time entertainment, compared with 48 per cent of Americans, and even more surprising only 13 per cent of UK respondents use their phones to access social media platforms such as Facebook, compared to one in four in the US.

The survey also found that 67% of respondents are beginning to use their phones in order to get online and pay a bill, upgrade their phone, change their calling plan or purchase content. Yet half stated that they have experienced ‘significant’ problems in doing so as the sites are not yet mobile friendly.

With more and more people using smartphones and mobile Internet, it seems strange that telcos have not stepped up in Britain to offer more rich media content, or even provide online customer services.
