Now before you read on, make sure you’re sitting comfortably. Have you got a cup of tea? Someone to offer words of comfort perhaps? That’s because I’ve got some potentially painful news for PS3 fans.

Remember the planned Uncharted movie we showed you a little while ago, being helmed by Three Kings maestro David O. Russell? Well the lead role of Indiana-Jones-alike Nathan Drake has just been filled.

It’s going to be Mark Wahlberg. Mark “Marky Mark New Kids on The Block Wahlberg”.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.

To be fair, Mark’s acting chops aren’t all that bad. Barring the woeful Max Payne (another game-to-movie adaptation), he was pretty good in The Departed and I Heart Huckabees, and I have a personal soft-spot for the Planet of the Apes Tim Burton re-boot he starred in. So perhaps it’s not all bad.

More interestingly are the rumours that Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci will both also be appearing in the movie, taking roles so far not laid down by any exisiting uncharted characters.

While big names like DeNiro offer some hope, I’m not keen on how quickly the Uncharted movie looks to be moving away from its source material. The PS3 action-title played out like a Hollywood action blockbuster anyway; it would barely have taken a tweak to bring it to the big screen, which made it such a promising proposition in the first place. Let’s hope Russell keeps it together and turns the tide of terrible game-movies.
