Do you ever feel like Facebook has become a bit to impersonal? I have something like 500 friends, but the reality is there is only a small percentage of those that I actually care about. I mean do we really want or need to know what Sally from primary school is doing and what her Farmville score is? To be honest – No.

Enter Path, the new photo-centric social hub that limits the number of friends you can have to 50. Started by a former Facebook Exec Dave Morin, the new social hub aims to make social networking more personal again. By limiting your social circle to 50 people, Morin believes it will enable more effective communications with people you actually know and trust.

Path is basically a photo-sharing site that allows users to use their mobile devices to share pictures, memories (were not exactly sure what that means) and daily activities with their friends.

We expect we will be hearing a lot about Path over the coming months, if only because of the all star Silicon Valley cast backing the company. Digg founder Kevin Rose, Salesforce boss Mark Benioff and Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher are all involved in the company, in addition to company co-founder and chairman Shawn Fanning, the creator of Napster. In fact even one of the investors in Path is Dustin Moskovitz, a co-founder of Facebook.

So could the next big thing in social networking be more personal networks? We will have to wait and see.

Path app is free and now available worldwide, with an Android and BlackBerry app in the works.
