The Japanese Fuji Television Network are preparing to broadcast the world’s first ongoing 3D drama in the new year.

Looking to capitalise upon the healthy early-adoption figures of 3D TV buyers in Japan, 10 episodes of the show have been commissioned.

Called “Tokyo Control”, it’ll be based around the goings-on of a Japanese airport, and will star accalimed Japanese actress Ayako Kawahara.

“3D will give us a more vigorous and realistic impact. I think (viewers) can feel like they are actually in there.” said Kawahara.

The show, made in partnership with Sony, will be accompanied by a regular 3D TV slot on Sunday evenings that will feature news sport and documentaries when it launches in January 2011.

With Sky’s 3D service now launched and the 3D revolution starting to pick up speed in the UK, perhaps we can look forward to 3D Eastenders and Corrie in 2011?
