Nokia: Trouble at the top as Anssi Vanjoki resigns

It’s been quite a rocky week for Nokia; first CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo was given the boot, replaced by ex Microsoft-er Stephen Elop, and now Mobile Solutions Leader Anssi Vanjoki has followed suit.

Vanjoki has handed his six months notice in, promising to stay loyal to the firm right until he closes his office door for the last time:

“I felt the time has come to seek new opportunities in my life. At the same time, I am one hundred per cent committed to doing my best for Nokia until my very last working day. I am also really looking forward to this year’s Nokia World and sharing news about exciting new devices and solutions.”

Whether its a show of solidarity towards Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo or otherwise, Vanjoki’s timing is pretty god-awful; tomorrow marks the start of the Nokia World convention, displaying the latest and greatest from the Finnish phone giants. With Nokia lagging behind the competition in the smartphone stakes and with so much resting on what is revealed this week, he may have been better off waiting to drop this bombshell in a few days time, for fear of taking the edge off of any major announcements the company may have up their sleeves.
