While you can’t fault Steve Ballmer’s enthusiasm when it comes to the potential of Windows 7 tablet devices, apart from the HP Slate and its now flaky position in tech Limbo Land, there hasn’t really been too much hardware to write home about.

Looking to change all that is Pegatron, whose Windows 7 MasterPad tablet is shaping up quite nicely. Featuring an 11.6 inch IPS touchscreen running at a 1,366 x 768 widescreen resolution, the MasterPad also has a 1.66GHz Atom N450 CPU powering the show.

Elsewhere you’ve got a 1.3 megapixel webcam, a mic, two USB ports, accelerometer, mini-HDMI port, a card reader, either 32GB or 64GB storage options and 3G internet connectivity.

While the two cell battery is capable of only 5 hours worth of usage per charge, Pegatron are also touting 1080p playback and full Flash support, which should give the anti-iPad brigade some much needed ammo.

We’ll have more on this soon, leading up to its pencilled release date of a few months time.
