Google’s popular News aggregation service has gotten a few significant updates today. Greater customisation abilities will make it easier to check out a news feed tailored to your tastes, and will now include stories specific to your chosen location.

Initially Google News will mine your search history from whilst you’ve been signed into your Google account and use that to produce a news feed. You can then further customise the your topics of interest, add a location from which you want to hear local news stories and even choose which news sources you want to feature most prominently.

There’s also a new button that will let you more easily share stories across social networks including Facebook, Twitter and Google’s own Buzz.

As it stands, the changes have only been added to Google News US, but a worldwide roll-out is expected to follow shortly.
