The long-rumoured premium wing of the PS3’s Playstation Network has been confirmed at E3. Playstation Plus will launch on 29th June 2010, and will offer exclusive content to its subscribers.

Though the current, free model will not be affected directly, the new two-tiered system will provide subscribers with unique content curated by Sony themselves. Games, movies and add-on packs on Playstation Plus “will be available for download on PlayStation Store for a stated period and change every month”, before disappearing, encouraging gamers to splash out while the content is available.

Discounts and bundle offers will also be available to Playstation Plus members. While Sony seem to have put in place plenty of deals, any savings then have to be measured against the cost of the subscription.

Playstation Plus will cost in the UK £39.99 a year, or £11.99 for 3 months for those who aren’t so ready to commit.
