AMD Dot.jpgPackard Bell have announced the launch of their new dot a laptop. The 11.6 inch computer will be available from summer 2010 for around £399. Promising excellent multimedia functionality, Packard Bell hope it will be a hit with fans of high-definition video and social networks.

Less than an inch thick and weighing just 1.35 kg the dot a features either an AMD Athlon™ Neo Dual-Core Mobile Processor K325, the AMD Athlon™ Neo Single-Core Mobile Processor K125 or the AMD V series Single-Core V105 with ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4225 Graphics. The later of these processors should be great for watching silky-smooth HD playback, with 7 hours worth of battery life enough to get through a HD boxset or two. There’s also a HDMI port for outputting video onto a HD TV.

Under the hood is also a 640 GB hard disk and 4GB Ram memory and a multi-in-1 card reader. The dot a also features a 1.3MP webcam and microphone for video calling.

Perhaps most interesting of all however is the introduction of a “Packard Bell Social Networks Key“. A single press of that button will fire up a toolbar featuring your YouTube, Facebook and Flickr accounts among others, giving quick access to your status updates and in-boxes without the need to fire up a web browser.
