BlackBerry’s Pearl range of budget smartphones is set to get a new addition in the shape of the 9100 model.

The BlackBerry Pearl 9100 features a trackpad rather than a trackball for navigation and a suretype keyboard where two letters are assigned to single button, rather than a full QWERTY. Suretype keyboards are notoriously clunky however, and while there’s no price set yet for this entry-level smartphone, we’d imagine you get what you pay for in this case.

That said, there are some surprisingly nice features packed into the 9100, including 3G connectivity and an iPhone-matching 3 megapixel camera which shouldn’t be scoffed at. It’s also a fair sight sleeker than the current range of Pearl handsets, with its curved black edging bringing it more in line with the style of BlackBerrys nearer the top end of the price range.

No word on pricing or availability just yet, but we’ll keep you posted.
