metacritic 2009.jpgReview aggregator Metacritic has released the results of its first annual Game Platform Power Ranking. Collating the media review scores of all of the past year’s games, it’s found that the PS3 had the most well loved software of the last 12 months, bagging a median score of 72.0 across all its reviews.

Metacritic also takes into account the number of stellar games that scored over 90% in reviews, which explains why the PS3’s 72.0 average score wins out over the PC’s 72.5.

In terms of individual games, the PS3’s Uncharted 2: Among Thieves tops the list, having an average review score of a whopping 96%. Of the top ten best performing games of the year, the PS3 bags two exclusive titles (Uncharted 2 and God of War Collection) while the Xbox 360 has just one, Forza Motorsport 3.

Only one handheld title makes the top ten list, the DS’s GTA: Chinatown Wars.

With only 228 PS3 games released in the year, compared to 306 PC games and 279 for the Xbox 360, quality over quantity seems to have won out for the PS3.
