Guardian News and Media have launched their first iPhone app. Delivering live news feeds to your hand, the app has intuitive navigating features such as the ability to favourite articles, browse by subject, as well as fast download speeds and offline functionality.

Interestingly, while the Guardian’s main website and mobile homepage remain free, this new app comes at a £2.39 premium.

Guardian News and Media’s head of mobile products, Jonathan Moore, suggested that it was the optimised nature of the format that made it warrant a price tag: “The browser is a one-to-many experience and it’s difficult to create a perfectly optimised version for each device, but apps let you create a really useful experience with functionality you won’t find anywhere else.”

It’s also worth noting that while news apps from the likes of the Telegraph are free, they heavily feature advertising. At present, the Guardian’s app does not.

The app lacks video, geo-targeting and social network support at present, but these will like be addressed in a future update.

You can pick the app up here.
