Can the X6 save Nokia's Comes With Music?

comes with music.jpgAnalysts from MKM Partners have today predicted that Nokia’s Comes With Music service may not survive till the end of 2010, and may have to close unless Nokia drastically increases its number of active users.

As MKM’s Tero Kuittinen suggests: “The time to really push for a premium service to compete with Apple was two to four years ago… I give it a year before they close it.”

Comes With Music has been live for over a year now, but there is still a huge difference between Comes With Music and iTunes sales at comparable times following each service’s initial launch.

However, emerging markets and the Nokia X6 handset may be what saves this digital music service. Encouraging amounts of Comes With Music users are found in emerging markets such as South America, with Brazil and Mexico showing a higher percentage of users compared to Western Markets like Germany and Italy where there is greater competition.

Also, with the Nokia X6 Comes With Music phone, the mobile phone manufacturers finally have a handset worthy of the tunes the are touting. The X6 has massive amounts of storage for taking your tracks on the go, and a slick touchscreen interface makes it incredibly user friendly. Not to mention the back-of-the-bus-bothering onboard speaker, which goes remarkably loud for a mobile phone.

Comes With Music may never best its Apple rival, but we think MKM may have been a little premature in ringing the death-knell for Nokia’s music service.
