laptop coupleNew research conducted by BT Mobile Broadband and VisitBritain has revealed startling insight into UK web surfing habits whilst on breaks away.

In news that is set to put a tear in the eye of romantics everywhere, it appears nearly two thirds of Brits would rather surf the web than spend passionate time with a loved one.

While away on holidays, over two thirds of 18-25 year olds will mostly be spending their time updating Facebook status’, tweeting or uploading photographs. The survey results also reveal the impact technology has on the over 50’s, with more than half of people aged 51 and over claiming they take their laptops away with them on short breaks, and 89 per cent using the internet whilst on holiday to research historical places of interest.

Jon Hurry, commercial director of BT Retail, said, “We now want to get online when we are out and about and this research proves we rely heavily on being connected to the internet at all times. With nearly half of Brits holidaying in the UK this year and BT Total Broadband customers able to get online using the dongle and the BT FON network, this is the perfect time to get away, get online and discover some of the country’s best kept secrets.”

With loved ones giving each other the cold shoulder in favour of online fun, we shudder to think what a peek at the browser’s history pages would reveal.
