How to sign up for a Google Wave invitation

There are apparently 100,000 invitations up for grabs though it looks like developers will be at the front of the queue.

they got like 3k invites. I feel lucky :)

I don't think I stand any chance of competing with developers on the line. I guess I will stay without an invitation.

What is the mechanism of sending and receiving those invitations anyway? I tried to get one but without success.
