Sky HD boxes self-destructing, getting replaced

sky-hd-boxes-failing.jpgSky HD customer? Have you heard from your provider lately? The company is allegedly recalling thousands of digiboxes due to a design fault that will gradually corrupt hard drives, ultimately causing disk failure.

The problem affects Pace-made units (Thomson, Samsung and Amstrad models are fine) and subscribers are getting three months of free HD subscription to compensate them for any data stored on their boxes.

Have you had your box replaced? Get in touch in the comments below and let us know what happened.

  • This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. Thanks.

  • @Chatanooka. Same problem for me. I had already had a Thomson box which got replaced due to a faulty tuner after 3 months. After this my Pace box was fine until SKY had it recalled and replaced today. Engineers left while a 10 min ‘update’ was to take place but the box never came back on! I’m now supposed to wait 3 days for them to come back. Very poor Sky and very bad service from the engineers. They won’t be leaving this time until it is up and running!!!!

  • Replaced my Pace box that had caused me no trouble with a shoddy Thompson box which lasted four hours before it shut down and will not restart. Noticed it got realy hot had to unplug it in case it caught fire. Please can some one remind me which MAKE has the more serious problem??, Apparently after reading several reports these other makes have had this type of problem from day one of sky so why are they still doing it??? Got to wait another week without t.v before Engineer pays a visit.

  • My box went – but it was the cheap capacitors used in the box. I thought it was other stuff but Sat cure sorted me out.

They do a much cheaper repair kit that avoids the hefty sky call out charge.

This problem is widespread and getting worse. Sky were useless so I sorted myself. Could have done with 3 months back though!
