What do you do when a 15-inch laptop is just that little bit too small, but a 17-inch one is a bit big? Simple! Buy a 16-inch version, like the Satellite A350 widescreen notebook from Toshiba.

You get a choice of processors, from the 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 or T6400, the 2.13GHz T7450, or the 2.1GHz AMD Turion Ultra Dual Core ZM-80, plus 4GB of RAM, up to 320GB of hard drive space, a super multi drive (no Blu-ray, funnily enough), TFT TruBrite display, 5-in-1 media slot, 1.3-megapixel webcam with face recognition, Harmon Kardon stereo speakers, optional HDMI port, Wireless-N and Bluetooth, and three USB ports.

The 16-inch display will get you 1,366 x 768 resolution, which is fine for watching 720p high definition content. In fact, Toshiba is keen to point out the multimedia credentials of this machine, although its specs don’t suggest that it will do anything remarkably better than a slew of other laptops on the market.

It’s not a bad looking machine, though, decked out in “Cosmic Black”. It’s available now with prices starting at about £530.

  • If it had been 16.2″, than the screen area would fall in just the mid point of 15.4″ and 17″ models. But decision has been done and new screen is a whopping(!) 7,9% bigger than the whole sum of 15.4″ models (zillions of models). Good job huh?
Now lets wait for a 14,7″ model which will end numerous desperate cases fall in between 14″ and 15.4″ laptops.
