kodak-dslr-mini-camcorder.jpgOkay, ladies and gentlemen. Line up, please. Kids at the front. We’re going to take a look at a couple of new products that Kodak has dropped on us. On your left, you’ve got the Z980 entry-level point-and-shoot, and on your right is the Zx1 weatherproof mini camcorder. Which shall we look at first? The Z980? Okay.

The Z980 is a fairly basic point-and-shoot, with a few notable exceptions. First, you’ve got a generous 24X zoom, which should let you zero in from a safe distance on that girl down the road who you’ve got a crush on, but who just doesn’t seem to notice your existence.

Second, it’s got 720p HD recording, so than when she inevitably falls for your charms, you can make high-quality “home videos” together. Lastly, it looks like a DSLR, so that when your relationship falls apart because you put those videos on the internet, you can try pull some photography nut instead. Yours for $400 (£280).

Then there’s the Zx1. It’s aimed squarely at fans of the brilliant Flip Mino. However, it’s got a couple of legs up on the Flip. Firstly, it’s weatherproof. Perfect for taking on a ski holiday, or a canoe expedition up the Zambezi.

It’s also cheaper than the Flip at just $150 (£104 or so), and will let you use SDHC cards up to 32GB. Plenty of room for all the 720p video you’ll be recording of your sister falling over in the snow, over and over again.

Both products will be demonstrated at CES, and will be available in ‘Spring 09’. A little while to wait, then.
