Santa baby, forgot to mention one little thing – a potentially lethal fake imported Nintendo DS
Don’t ruin Christmas by purchasing a cheap fake Nintendo DS off the internet and have it explode and burn down your Christmas tree and, subsequently, the entire house and a bit of the neighbour’s house.
That’s the slightly over-dramatic warning being issued by HMRC today, which says it’s intercepted “hundreds” of fake Nintendo products on their way into the UK, including the old DS and the lovely DS Lite – products that include non-tested power supplies that could cause SLIGHT RISK to the user.
Pamela Rogers, HMRC’s head of intellectual property rights, said “At best, these consoles would have led to disappointment on Christmas morning; at worst, they could have caused serious harm or injury.”
Which is a bit of an exaggeration, to say the least. I have a terrible £2.99 Chinese mobile phone charger I got off eBay. It makes a funny buzzing sound when running so I never leave it switched on unsupervised just in case it goes up. You just need to be a bit more careful around suspiciously cheap electrical items.

These are truly awful fakes, with 80s-style LCD screens – while they might look like a DS, the resemblance disappears when they’re switched on.
