If you're wondering why on Earth someone would want to play the iPhone version of Doom through the video out function of the handset and onto an old Apple II monochrome screen, you're probably reading the wrong blog. The answer is: because you can.
iPhone developer Steven Troughton-Smith saw the video out enhancements as investigated over on Ars Technica - in itself a very good post - and decided to make something of his own. If you're keen, slightly silly and have time to kill, then there's some instructions on how to do it yourself. I'm with it right up until step one.
