Another fine mess for PlayStation3 - LittleBigPlanet recalled and delayed over offensive lyrics

Comments (6)

littlebigplanet-pulled-new-release-date.jpgThe latest hilarious mishap in the unfortunate life of PS3 involves LittleBigPlanet, the cutesy platform game that's the darling of the media right now due to its user-generated content level designing promise.

A user on the PlayStation forums politely notified Sony that a piece of music in the game quotes two lines of the Qur'an, resulting in a horrified Sony issuing a full recall immediately.

The game had already shipped to retailers in the US and across Europe, though, with some going ahead and selling the copies they have in stock regardless, creating a patchy mess of a supply situation and blanket of confusion around what should've been Sony's biggest game of the winter.

Sony and UK-based maker Media Molecule have today said they will officially relaunch a patched version of LBP in the UK "in the week commencing November 3rd," while the American launch has been delayed until October 27.

The one game Sony looked like making a bit of money out of this Christmas, ruined. That is a big shame. You have no idea what emotions we are experiencing right now.

Sad that we as a society have to have such extreme knee-jerk reactions over such a small hardcore segment of the populace. Seems prejudicial imo, considering Sony's response to the Church of England over Resistance 1.

Morne

Yes, it's sad. So very sad.

Sony must've had to pulp hundreds of thousands of discs which would've cost it millions of pounds to produce. The tears are rolling down my cheeks.

I'm sobbing so hard that the waistband of my trousers is starting to get damp.

I'm vexed. I hate livin on planet Earth. We need a fresh start somewhere far away where people are not so freakin sensitive. The track in question is a grammy award winning song from a somalian (correct me if im wrong). Another example of the widening the Gulf between islam and christianity another example of the world bowing to the minority of islamic extremism

Sorry, but it should be noted that article blames Sony themselve?

Aportion the blame to the Muslims who claim to be offended by such things. Perhaps they should develop a sense of humour and stop screaming over every little thing.

Sony have acted sensibly and stopped possible reaction, if not violent reaction, from some of the Islam extremists. This article is yet again another example of the biased media against the PS3 while crawling up the 360s backside. How is it a failure for Christmas? Blown out of proportion again by the MS web spinners.

Not Sony's fault.

Yo if someone wrote something bad about christianity then we'd be pissed so i think you shouldn't blame the muslims and stop blaming them for everything

@ Brandon:
If I could I would slap the s**t out of you.
Have you got any idea what this is about?
