Spore available for download NOW

sporebox.jpgNo, not on the Pirate Bay. Will Wright’s magnum opus is available for downloading right now on the (awful) EA Games download manager. The catch? You won’t be able to play it until you activate it, and you can’t do that until Sunday 7th September, when it’s released in shops.

Spore is a vast, penis-populated game where you can create your own species and watch it evolve from the cellular goop into creating its own towns and cities, and eventually colonizing other planets. There are massively multiplayer aspects, too. It’s huge and epic, and I can’t wait to play it. Unfortunately, I’m off to Bestival this weekend, so I’ll be late to the party. Damn.

One thing to note, if you’re considering this, is that it’ll cost you £39.99 initially, and you can re-download anytime in the first 6 months. After that you’ll have to pay to re-download it. For that reason, I strongly recommend that you buy a box in the shop instead. Digital distribution saves costs for publishers, but it’s about time they started passing on those savings to consumers.
