Sony has introduced its new range of Vaio hardware, with a focus on high definition and Blu-ray.

Vaio AW

Sony describes its Vaio AW as a “new class” of portable, because it boasts a range of advanced features including a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution 18.4-inch widescreen using 3LED backlighting similar to that found on Sony’s high-end BRAVIA TVs, integrated Blu-ray drive, Dolby Home Theatre audio signal processing and 2.1-channel speakers with integrated subwoofer.

It features an Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT, and 128GB solid state disk and 500GB hard drive working together in a RAID array. It also comes with Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom, which should appeal to photographers and artists using the Vaio AW for image processing.

Vaio RT

This all-in-one system boasts a 25.5-inch full HD display running at 1,920 x 1,200 resolution, integrated Blu-ray writer, and PC featuring an Intel Core 2 Quad processor and NVIDIA GeForce 9600M.

Seemingly aimed at both the living room and the graphics prosumer, it has an HDMI input for connecting up external devices (like a PS3), and also comes with Adobe’s Photoshop Lightroom, Photoshop Elements, and Premiere Elements, for editing images and video.

Vaio LV/LN

Slightly smaller all-in-ones, the Vaio LV offers a 24-inch 1,920 x 1,200 resolution display, and the Vaio LN a 20.1-inch 1,680 x 1,050 one.

The LN features a built-in Blu-ray drive, and the LV offers a Blu-ray writer. Both have integrated digital and analogue TV tuners, Intel Core 2 Duo processor, HDMI input, and the same Adobe software as the Vaio AW notebook.

Prices and availability to be confirmed.

  • I would like to buy Sony VAIO AW Series with LED back-light but reviewing Sony web page about those 18.4” Laptops I got confused. How I supposed to know that I am buying Laptop with LED back-light. Sony offers many configurations of 18.4” Laptops but nobody in Sony know which configuration is with standard back-light and which configuration is with LED back-light.

I got information from other sources that Sony will sell mention above Laptops with LED back-light and with standard back-light. I will appreciate any clarification about that.
