GTA: Chinatown Wars to feature drug-dealing minigame

gta-chinatown-wars.jpgThere was a promise of “tasteful minigames” for the forthcoming DS version of the bazillion-selling GTA franchise. I guess that’s out the window, because one of the games is drug-dealing, where you can sell heroin, cocaine, weed, ecstasy, acid and downers. It’ll get you cash that you can then spend on weapons, or body armour. Rockstar VP Dan Houser said:

“We wanted to have a drug-dealing mini-game in lots of the GTA games. We played with it a little in Vice City Stories, because it worked really well juxtaposed with the main story. It works well with what GTA is, with driving around the map, and it gives you another thing to think about – another layer or piece of the puzzle to keep you motivated… It does intersect with the main story and things you learn from it work with the story, but it mostly runs on its own.”

I was a little worried that the cel-shaded graphics and kid-friendly console would result in a slight brightening up of GTA’s scummy image, but it seems I needn’t have been concerned. Still, it’ll surely fire up the tabloids. Remember mums and dads, if a game label says “18” on it, you might not want to buy it for little Johnny for Christmas.
