Italian Pirate Bay traffic goes up, staff drink bottle of rum to celebrate

italy-flag.jpgAll publicity is good publicity, or so the saying goes – and it might just be right. Apparently since the Italian government banned BitTorrent tracker The Pirate Bay the other day, the site has seen a 5% increase in hits coming from Italy.

Apparently telling everyone that The Pirate Bay exists actually acted as free advertising for it – the flaw being that it would seem that if you’re trying to stop the |33test of leet haX0rs, they’re probably going to try and find a way around the block.

Interestingly, the site that users get sent to when they try to access TPB from Italy now is a website owned by the IFPI – a UK hosted website for the organisation representing the recording industry.

So it looks as though The Pirate Bay is going to live to fight another day and won’t have to walk the plank just yet.
