Well, we’ve had the camera wave with Nikon and Sony et al all getting rather excited but this week seems to be the time for the PMP market to hot up. Yesterday was the turn of the Sony Walkman and the high-end Archos tablets and today has brought us the Philips GoGear SA52 and now the Axxen Playgo X11 and X12. Rather similar name to the Philips range, don’t you think? Perhaps they could just join forces and create the Gearplay or the GoGo?
If you’re experiencing some sort of overload, then you may be pleased to hear that Axxen has only released their two budget babies into the Korean market but personally I think they’d provide some very welcome competition for the Nanos, E series Walkman and smaller GoGears of this world.
The Playgo X11 and X12 have 1.5″ and 2″ OLED displays respectively and they’ll both cope equally happily with mp4 and mp3 playback as well as dealing with AVIs and working as recording devices, FM radios and e-book viewers. Not too shabby, eh, and all at just 5.6mm thick and only a 20g body weight.
They’re obviously designed to fight with the iPod Nano in terms of market share but the design is refreshingly different and you’ve got to respect the effort if nothing else. I’ve got no price for you but if you manage to decipher the Korean product page, then do let me know.
