Price cuts for the Asus Eee PC 900 and even more sub-notebook options

Indeed Asus themselves have taken a good look at the competition and to keep their original Eee PC 900s flying off the shelves, they're now offering a $100 rebate on any new ones purchased.

Unfortunately, that's only over in the States at the mo but if you fancy wasting all of the savings on shipping, you can go over to Amazon and order one for the initially bargain price of $449.99.

Now, that makes the Eee PC 900 cheaper than all the XP-based rivals but still a tad more expensive than a few Linux models, including the likes of the MSI-Wind at $399.

It's a little tricky to know how all this may or may not translate over here but, frankly, I'd be surprised if they didn't offer UK consumers a similar deal. In the mean time, there's always the Advent Wind-clone at PC World which is both XP-based and not much heavier on the wallet at £280.

And just in case you're not confused enough, Asus are releasing a new Eee PC 900 to join the 12GB and 20GB versions. It's smack in the middle with a solid state storage of 16GB, the same Celeron 900 CPU, 1GB of RAM and 8.9-inches of screen.

Personally, I couldn't care less. If it hasn't got an Atom chip, I don't want to know. Like a mouse they are.
