The lawyer of a Florida-based porn king intends to show a jury that his client is innocent of breaching "contemporary community standards" by explaining that search terms for sex on Google are more common than those for good-old, American apple pie.
By using Google Trends, the publicly accessible search term counter, the defence will demonstrate that residents of Pensacola, Florida, are far more likely to search for the word "orgy" than the aforementioned national dessert.
As correct as this may be, the last pornographer to try this defence was found guilty all the same, even after his legal team demonstrated that the local townspeople were more likely to look up explicit acts on the internet than more wholesome subjects such as the local college quarterback.
The trouble is that those 12 men and woman good and true are just unlikely to admit that porn is ok in front of gallery of their spouses, friends, families and neighbours. So chances are, that just like the first chap, Mr Clinton Raymond McCowen is going down. Pun intended.
