Reading novels on your mobile is old news, now the Japanese read picture books!

japanese-picture-book.jpgTurns out the Japanese are over last year's fad of reading novels and manga on their handsets, as this year the latest craze is reading picture books on phones!

Sure, you may feel a bit juvenile sitting on the train flicking through pictures of princesses on your handset, but they're apparently selling like kimchi hot cakes over there, with most books retailing for ¥100-200 each (about 48p-£1). The books available so far include children's stories plus original made-for-the-mobile content, with the Japanese author Chaco publishing five novels for the mobile, with one of the titles selling more than 1 million units in just the last 14 months alone.

Think this will catch on over here? Will I be seeing you flipping through pages of The Princess And The Pea?
