asus_eee_pc_so_great.jpgIn rather vague news emerging from Taiwan, it seems that HTC may be looking to developed Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) using Intel’s new Atom processor and Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset, with new devices coming towards the end of the year.

Apparently, the increasing popularity of the Eee PC and the myriad of competing designs has meant that UMPC (Ultra Mobile PC) development has been impacted.

Now, to the average consumer, trying to explain the difference between a UMPC and a MID might be like explaining why Jamie Oliver pronounces “tomato” in two different ways at two different times, but with the ongoing move towards portable Internet-enabled devices, MIDs is definitely where it’s at — or so the manufacturers seem to think.

In any case, according to HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou, the company will launch 10 new handsets this year, including new HTC Diamond and Touch Pro models.
