You can tell it’s expensive, can’t you? Black, chrome and shiny add up to bucks when it comes to techno-gadgetry and in this case we’re talking $47,000; pocket change for a turntable really.

It’s the kind of thing you could have asked your dad for back in the day and with a smile he’d pat you on the head, pull out his wallet and beat you with it until you understood the meaning of money.

There’s very little that can justify that kind of price tag, even if it is made of four cones of alternate layers of aluminium and acrylic and comes with a 10″ carbon Da Vinci arm with a Titanium pick and a 9” SME model 5009 tonearm.

It looks great but let’s get a grip here. It’s a record player. There’s nothing even that high-tech about. My phone’s more advanced than it is and it’s a Motorola. My toaster’s probably got a higher IQ and as for my musical toilet roll holder – well, they’d probably make good friends; more of yellowing plastic arm than a Da Vinci one though.
