Daredevil inventor flies with jet wings: the day man learnt to fly

Comments (1)

My life is complete, or it will be when I get to do what Yves Rossy, aka Fusion Man, has done and fly at 8,200ft with rocket-powered wings.

The 48-year-old ex-fighter pilot strapped on the 2.5 metre wings and jumped out of a plane above the Swiss Alps. He glided for a while and then let rip with his four jet turbines that blasted his body to a staggering 186mph. Just imagine the g-force!

Mr Rossy was in complete control, soaring and diving and even managing 360s and barrel rolls.

"This flight was excellent," he said after landing safely in an airfield near Lake Geneva. "It's like a second skin. If I turn to the left, I fly left. If I nudge to the right, I go right. It was wonderful, it was a compete success."

He says his next challenge is to cross the Channel but I say it's to stop me and all the other dreamers out there from getting hold of his invention.

This is the most excited I've been all week. When do we get to play?
