Portable digital video recorder from Maplin - not a sat nav, promise

Maplin-portable-video-recorder.jpgNo, this isn't a sat nav and the word "Music" written on the 2.5" TFT LCD isn't much a clue either. This is, in fact, Maplin's portable digital video recorder. Funny looking, isn't it?

The idea is that it's the perfect shape to watch all of you captured media along with up to 2GB of whatever else you may have uploaded directly from your VCR, DVD player, satellite receiver, DVB-T box or cable box using the AV cables.

The music part comes in as it acts as an MP3 player and FM Radio player and comes with fold out stereo speakers, presumably because this very small and portable device is designed with extreme sports in mind and those radical kinds like their wild tunes, if all film and marketing stereotypes are to be believed.

This offering from Maplin may not be the most futuristic piece of kit but it's a pretty good all round package for £179.99 and at a matter of four or five inches across, they're not lying when they say it's portable. Whether you'd want to take it sky-diving is another thing though.
