All those who thought SACD was dead, raise your hand! All those who’ve never even heard of SACD, raise your hand!

I’m so disappointed in all of you.

By the looks of things, Pioneer is too, as they’ve just announced a new DVD/SACD player, that should be dropping mid-year. The DV-610AV features upscaling technology, plus plays content from SACD, DSD, USB, CD and also the file formats WMV, WMA, MPEG-4, AAC, MP3, DivX, DivX Ultra and JPEG, from the USB port. It also features an HDMI output.

Sony and Philips would be *so* proud.

  • Well, what can I say? MP3s are for the mass consumers who don’t know how to appreciate the qualities of a good recording.
