iSkoro 21.04.08. If you happen to speak Russian, you may be experiencing some excitement right now. If you don't, what that means is "iSoon 21.04.08". Still clear as mud? Well, allow me to explain.
This is the message that's been appearing on the billboards of the streets of Moscow in the same style as the writing used for the iPhone campaign elsewhere. Now, as yet, the Russian populous has not had the pleasure of the new toy from Jobs Towers and there has been some feverish speculation that the moment is soon to come.
However, according to new sightings, this doesn't seem to be the case but it could be a significant step in that direction because "iSkoro 21.04.08" seems to refer to the launch of the Russian branch of the iTunes Store.
New websites have popped up in the recent weeks with banners reading, "iTunes Store Russia 21.04.2008" and combined with the new listing of the support e-mail "support@apple.ru" it would all seem fairly conclusive evidence that Apple are at last to cash in on the music market in what was the capital state of the former Soviet Union, where until now third party music stores and audio piracy have been in control.
According to Russian mobile retailers Euronet, this is an important step towards the release of the iPhone and with the handsets already leaking into the country, there's a good reason for Apple to role them out as quickly as possible.
Of course, there's always a slim chance that 21.04.08 could be a dual release for both the store and the phone but I imagine the Apple marketing department are far too canny too not to whip up the Russian public twice over and milk the opportunities for all they're worth.
