Daybed: good for your back, good for catching 40 winks at work

I spend most of my life huddled over a computer. I think most of us do these days. I don't do yoga and given that I seem to sleep in a half-nelson for seven hours each night, I don't really have much walking around time to uncrumple by body throughout the day.

In fact, there's going to be a whole generation of laptop cripples in about 20 years' time from the same problem. You'll know us with our C-shaped backs, spindly legs and scolded thighs, unless of course companies and home users alike get wise very soon and invest in wonderfully designed bits of kit like the Daybed chair from Humanscale design studios.

Not only does the Daybed actually look like the furniture of next Tuesday but it's ergonomically designed to keep your spine as it should be and you nice and comfy.

The key, of course, is the laptop table, which swings 180 degrees to accommodate left-handers, and keeps your machine where you don't have to contort your body to reach it.

It rather reminds me of the chairs they use on the bridge of the Enterprise. Just imagine a whole office with rows of these things. That's probably what the inside of the Googleplex looks like.

My only worry is that, living up to its name, the Daybed would be a little too comfortable and bring on the odd three-hour power nap. Now that's ok while you're at work but I'd hate to waste my free time like that.
