Yamaha has introduced the DVX-1000 audio system with built-in DVD player. Though it’s just a stereo system with subwoofer, it simulates 7.1 channel surround sound using Yamaha’s AIR SURROUND XTREME technology. Not great for the purists, but where space and price is of the essence, not a bad solution.

The DVD player will upscale standard DVDs to 1080p, output via the HDMI port. It also features an analogue radio tuner, and compatibility with a number of video and audio formats including DivX, DivX ULTRA, MP3, and WMA.

It seems to be available only in Japan at present, with no word on pricing or availability elsewhere at present.
