The "ThruVision T5000" uses "passive imaging technology" to view objects via the electromagnetic spectrum. Like bats. No, not bats. Dolphins. Is it dolphins? Which animals is it that use magnetism? Birds? Isn't that how birds tell which way is north? So can birds see through our clothes with their electromagnetic fifth sense? No wonder they're singing all the time.
The camera is supposed to be used for serious things, like detecting weapons and drugs hidden beneath the clothes of potential terrorists. But it's only a matter of time until the technology "trickles down" to the keen home pervert market.
"The ability to see both metallic and non-metallic items on people out to 25 meters is certainly a key capability that will enhance any comprehensive security system," says Clive Beattie, chief executive of ThruVision, rather seriously considering everyone on the internet will making jokes about using it to see women's bras today.
If you want to see the T5000 in action, and have the relevant security clearances, the ThruVision will be on show this week, at a security exhibition sponsored by the Home Office.
That's not the sort of place to make jokes about using it to look at women's bras.
