aeroplane-mobile-phone-uk-europe.jpgPhone regulator Ofcom has given the go-ahead for UK-registered planes to allow passengers to use their mobiles during flights. Five hours next to a businessman discussing proposals and changes to PowerPoint slides in his loudest “I’m important” voice? Can’t wait.

The system lets you use your own mobile, which connects to an on-board base station – and redirects your incredibly important text message about what everyone’s having for dinner tonight to your Earth-based friend. The rules require planes to be over 3000 metres up in the air, but after that it’s phone who you like time.

Affordable British “carrier” BMI has already expressed an interest, with individual companies left to decide passenger demand – and how many pounds per second it’ll cost you – and there’s a full Europe-wide agreement also in place, so you can fine-tune the details of Dave’s stag mid-flight.
