LimeWire launches a DRM-free music store

limewire_store_logo.pngPopular P2P network LimeWire has announced the launch of an online music store featuring DRM-free tracks available for users to purchase little as 27 cents (about 50p) each, from a range of independent artists. We've been expecting it for some time.

Around half-a-million MP3 files, encoded at a reasonably decent 256Kbps, are available, and users of the LimeWire application will soon see links to buy tracks as well as download free music as they usually do.

Paying on a per-track basis, they're 99c each. Alternatively, three levels of monthly subscription allow a set number of tracks to be downloaded, at a reduced per-track cost.

Whether users will want to pay for their music remains to be seen.

Sorry to pick fault, 27 cents is around 14p rather than around 50p. You also later mentioned 99c later on, which is around 50p.

Have a fun day, Jon
